23/03: Mineral Makeup Ingredients
Just wanted to add some information to clarify what exactly goes in to our mineral makeup.
Of first note, all of our makeup is manufactured/mixed, packaged & sealer in our lab. This means that we do not purchase from a supplier & therefore know exactly what's in our product. Because batches are also hand-crafted, each batch is tested against our color chart to verify match.
To list the most important, here are some of the ingredients that our NOT in our mineral makeup:
talc- absolutely no talc is used in any of our mineral makeup
bismuth oxychloride- used by many "leading" mineral makeup companies, we have chosen not to use this filler due to concerns over skin irritation
nano-particles- as our earlier blog entry notes, we use no "nano-particles" due to concerns over inhalation & lung health
parabens &/or sulfates- not used
Hope this helps answer some of the many questions we've had with regard to this issue.

15/02: Zea Mays
Erth Minerals has recently discontinued the use of zea mays (corn starch) in our 2.0 & 5.2 foundation formulations.
Although we appreciate zea mays for the smoothness it adds to mineral makeup, we feel we can use other alternatives to achieve the same results.

26/11: No Nanoparticles
We have had many questions from concerned consumers as to whether or not our products contain nanoparticles as they have been shown to be of concern with regard to lung health. Our products DO NOT CONTAIN NANOPARTICLES.
What is a nanoparticles? According to Wikipedia nanoparticles any particles with any dimension less than 100 nm.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, "Animal studies have shown that some nanoparticles can penetrate cells and tissues, move through the body and brain and cause biochemical damage. But whether cosmetics and sunscreens containing nanomaterials pose health risks remains largely unknown, pending completion of long-range studies recently begun by the FDA and other agencies."[1]
Although the Chronicle admits that health risk due to cosmetics is "largely unknown", we at Erth Minerals have made the choice to not use raw materials containing nanoparticles to ensure the safety of our staff & of our clients.
Best,
V. Blink
